It is a great pleasure that we have again been asked to be part of the Annual Choral evensong with the Cathedral choir, and as an ex cathedral lay-clerk there it is even more rewarding, as conductor of ESO, to stay so close to our city cathedral.

The programme once again is full of magnificent works for choir, very often heard in the cathedral setting with just organ accompaniment at one of the fine services there. However, this event allows the singers to have the support of an orchestra as well, since these sets of original orchestral parts exist, and are a great addition to the already splendid choral writing in the works chosen.

The music list is as follows :-

Introit :- My Beloved Spake - Patrick Hadley

Psalm setting :- 'Great is the Lord' - Edward Elgar

Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis settings are Stanford in Bb       -  and yes - wait for it - the Anthem is probably one of the finest short choral pieces ever -

Blest Pair of Sirens - Sir Hubert Parry.

Just to round things off we shall have the added pleasure of the 1st Movement of Widor's 6th symphony. In the glorious setting of Exeter Cathedral it will be a wonderful evensong in a marvellous acoustic. See you there - Brian
