Exeter Symphony Orchestra (ESO) is looking for a talented and preferably locally based Musical Director/Conductor who has a passion for promoting amateur music and is well connected in the Exeter and Devon music scene to enable the future development of the orchestra.
As one of Exeter’s principal symphony orchestras, ESO endeavours to maintain a high standard and produce a varied programme of public concerts in different venues across the city including Exeter Cathedral.
The orchestra is made up of a combination of amateur and professional players and is seeking a Musical Director/Conductor with excellent skills in leading, encouraging and motivating players from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. The successful candidate will assist repertoire and concert programme planning including collaborations with other local amateur and professional groups.
The role involves a commitment to weekly term-time rehearsals in Exeter on Tuesday evenings and an average of three to four concerts per year. We anticipate that the successful candidate will take up post in January 2020.
The ESO is a non-profit making organisation supported and run by the members.
A shortlist of applicants will be invited for interview and orchestral audition on September 24th. 2019. The final appointment will be made shortly afterwards.
